Description of the Area

Elegant and timeless, the sundrenched region of Poitou-Charentes is an idyllic location with long sandy beaches, limestone cliffs and lush countryside. The location of the region is perfect as it is warmer than the north, whilst avoiding the stifling heat that can affect southern regions in the in the summer. Winter is mild and there is just enough rainfall throughout the year to keep the green scenery surrounding many Poitou-Charentes holiday cottages lush and fertile.

What to see and do during your stay

  • Angouleme walled city

    Angouleme is 130 kilometres north-east of Bordeaux, in the Charente region of Poitou-Charentes overlooking the southern edge of the Charente River. Angouleme stands distinguished on its rocky promontory, surrounded by large boulevards - these stand above the original ramparts that protected the town, with more than 2km of the ramparts remaining intact. The boulevards are wide, open streets.

    Couvoisier offers tours of its museum in both English and French which are very informative. They include a detailed exploration of the history of Courvoisier, the House's links with Napoleon, the cognac-making process, and an audio/visual presentation.

  • Remy matin Tour
